Guy Masterson studied Biochemistry & Chemistry at Cardiff University (Bsc Joint Hons - Magna Cum Laude) before emigrating to the USA in 1982. He became an actor in 1985 having worked in Hotel & Restaurant Management with Hilton and Black Angus Restaurants and then as a carpenter. He studied drama at UCLA in 1985 while starting out as an actor in Hollywood. He returned to the UK in 1989 to attend LAMDA (Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre) after which he formed Boy's Own productions in 1991. While continuing to work onstage, he has directed 50 productions while producing or presenting over 150 in 30 years, including 3 West End shows and the 3 highest grossing theatre shows in Edinburgh Festival history. His 2009 production of Morecambe won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in 2010. His epic transformation of his own solo adaptation of Animal Farm won The Stage Award for Best Ensemble at Edinburgh 2014. He directed Scaramouche Jones at Wilton's Music Hall in June 2021 which was nominated for 3 Offie Awards, winning for Best Performance (Justin Butcher) In 2022 The Shark Is Broken transferred to the Ambassadors Theatre in London’s West End to great acclaim, winning a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. The Shark is Broken opened at the John Golden Theatre, Broadway on August 10, 2023. Most recently he co-directed the multi-award winning The Marvellous Elephant Man Musical in Adelade, Melbourne & Sydney, Australia.
